Unforgettable motoring nostalgia and a celebration of vehicles ranging from two wheels to ten will be on offer at this year’s Historic Vehicle Gathering,
Staged by the Crash Box and Classic Car Club, this event will transform the castle’s scenic parkland into a motoring extravaganza of 1,500 vehicles featuring everything from steam engines to classic motorcycles, cars, tractors and commercial vehicles. There will also be 76 vehicle clubs attending.
The special attractions include the attendance of the sole surviving Volvo P1800 car used for the filming of the 1960s television series, The Saint, starring the late Sir Roger Moore.
For enthusiasts of steam, over fifty full-size and miniature steam engines will be attending, including ‘Well Chuffed’, a 12 ton dual crank compound greens steam roller running with Mclaren cylinder block and motion, which was built in 1925. Now the only one of its type in the world, ‘Well Chuffed’ spent time working in South Africa before being repatriated to the UK in 2007.
Alongside the display of vehicles will be 70 trade stands, craft stalls, charity displays, autojumble, children’s rides, refreshments and catering and roaming live music.
The 51st Historic Vehicle Gathering will also be raising funds for various local charities, with the headline charities being Dementia Friendly Honiton, Torbay Prostate Support Association (and the Exmouth Group), and the British Heart Foundation (Exeter Branch).
The Historic Vehicle Gathering runs from 10am until 4:30PM on both days.
