Two Devon opera productions - and switch of venue
When balcony glass shattered at St. Gregory’s Church in Dawlish, the Red Earth Opera quickly had to find a alternative venue for their planned May concert - a production of La Traviata.
In true trouper style, the show had to go on.So now the opera group have managed to switch their production on Saturday May 2 at 7pm to Hope Church, which is lies just behind the Dawlish Sainsbury’s store on the outskirts of the town.
“It has entailed a lot of hard work and replanning but we were determined to go ahead and the people at Hope Church have been very helpful, “ says Red Earth Opera Director, Jane Anderson-Brown.
The change of venue has also presented some transport problems for those who would have walked to St. Gregory’s so the group are hoping that Dawlish Community Transport might be able to step in and help.
Red Earth Opera will also be staging a second performance of La Traviata with chorus and orchestra at Chudleigh Parish Church on Sunday, May 3 again at 7pm.
ST GREGORY'S Church in Dawlish remains closed after a large glass panel in the balcony inside smashed. just hours before the Easter Sunday service. For safety reasons, the church has had to remain closed with no access permitted while the situation is being assessed and made safe.
