Young Person's Day: Rising Icons

Following the success of last year’s Young Person’s Day at Out There Queer Fest 2024, Out There and Exeter Library brings back Young Person’s Day for 2025! A bold celebration for LGBTQIA+ young people and friends, and community empowerment of our rising stars of the future.

Rising Icons – Unleash the creative hero within - A world where creativity has power and everyone has a hero inside waiting to be unleashed. This is a day for you and your friends to level up: to try new things, meet new friends, and be part of a supported community.

It’s FREE. It’s for you and your tribe. It’s where icons are made. And, snacks and refreshments will be provided

What's Happening? From 12.00 noon, there will be a mix of activities to enjoy in a relaxed and welcoming space. You can take part in creative workshops, perform on our open mic stage, or do your own thing at your own pace.

Queer Diary Zine-Making - Come fold a mini-zine from a piece of A4 paper, and use collage, writing or drawing to create your own pocket-sized booklet, celebrating your own icons.

Open Mic Stage (Lady of the Sea Events) - Come along, join in, network and support other young, diverse and underrepresented artists. If you’d like to perform on our Open Mic Stage, just complete our quick registration form on our website — or simply come along on the day and let us know!

Song writing Sessions with Varda Vibe - Turn your ideas and feelings into lyrics and song

Intercom Trust: LGBT+ School Groups - Share tips and tricks on starting and running groups in schools.

Section 28 and Its Afterlives Creative Workshop - Reflect on Section 28 and its legacies, engaging with this challenging period of recent LGBTQ+ history, by using collage to create a personal response to a range of historical material.

LGBT+ Community Stalls - Discover groups, resources, and opportunities in your community.

Games & Chill Zone - Just hang out with new and old mates, and talk to like-minded people.
