Brave the blaze for your local hospice

The local hospice for Exeter, central and east Devon is bringing back its hottest event to raise vital funds for patient care.

Back for its second year, and in a brand-new location, Hospiscare’s Firewalk is set to sizzle.

On 23 October, Hospiscare is inviting people from across the heart of Devon to step out of their comfort zone and on to hot coals to raise funds for patients and their families living with a terminal illness.

The hospice, which cares for over 2,200 patients and their families every year, receives just 24% of its funding from the Government and must therefore rely upon its community to raise the majority of the £10 million needed annually to fund patient care.

Taking place in the historic grounds of Bicton College, challengers can test their courage and determination to raise vital funds for their local hospice. Experienced firewalk trainers will guide participants through the process and teach them how to conquer the coals safely.

Rosie Connor was the first person to sign up to last year’s event, inspired by the care her mum, Siobhan, was receiving from Hospiscare. Rosie says, “We’re so thankful for the way Hospiscare cared for Mum. The Firewalk was such a celebration of their work and an amazing way to give back to such a special cause. I encourage anyone looking to overcome fear and support local families to take part.”

The Firewalk is open to anyone aged 18 and over and costs just £30 to sign up, with a suggested £200 sponsorship raised by each walker for Hospiscare. Participants can also enter without raising sponsorship by paying a one-off fee of £60.

All participants will receive a complimentary hot drink and gourmet burger upon arrival, kindly provided by event partners Rapid Relief. All those who reach their £200 sponsorship target will also receive a free pint following the event, kindly supplied by Crave.
