At 11am this morning people across the County paused to remember just as others have done for over 100 years. Remembering those who had fought in Two World Wars and conflicts since, remembering especially those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of freedom.
In Exeter people gathered at the City War Memorial in Northernhay Gardens where Veterans were joined by serving Military personnel, Cadet Forces and Civilian organisations, along with the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon and the Lord Mayor of Exeter.
The Salamanca Band of the Rifles and The Salvation Army band provided the music, along with the University of Exeter’s Chapel Choir.
In Exmouth Councillor Graham Deasy (Mayor of Exmouth), Neil Gregory (Chairman of the Royal British Legion), Reverend Steve Jones and Roger Bourgein (Town Crier) lead the service at the War Memorial with the assistance of members of the Royal British Legion. Joining them were Veterans, Cadet Forces, Civilian organisations and hundreds of members of the public to pay their respects on this Remembrance Sunday.
