People are heading to Dartmoor to connect with nature — to sleep under the stars, listen to the skylarks, and wake up to mist-covered tors. But sadly not all are treating it with respect
Dartmoor is an amazing place had has lots to offer.
However, what Dartmoor Rangers are seeing in some places isn’t backpack camping — it’s destructive 'fly camping'. Abandoned tents, scorched earth, and beer cans left behind. That’s not freedom, or respect, it’s damage and dangerous to the environment.
Your right to be here is powerful — but it’s not a free-for-all.

Respect the land, wildlife, and each other
Everyone is welcome here – but we need to do it right. Dartmoor is a living, breathing place that needs all of us to take care of it.
Love Dartmoor, respect the rights we have and cherish the ground you camp on.
