Wales & West Utilities has started a project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Buddle Lane area of Exeter.
The £253,000 project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing everything goes to plan, this work will be complete by 1 March next year.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Exeter City Council, and traffic management will be in place throughout the project. This initially includes:
- A closure on Buddle Lane, between the junctions of Dunsford Road to the access point to St Phillips Court (13 October – 3 November)
- Following this, rolling two-way traffic lights will be in place on Buddle Lane to its junction with Redhills (until Christmas)
- A closure on the junction of Buddle Lane and Newman Road, with a footpath closure between 55-87 Buddle Lane (post-Christmas).
Further traffic management will be in place as the project progresses.
Wales & West Utilities' Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
