More community groups in Exeter are celebrating after winning crucial funding from the City Council. A total of 22 groups applied for funding in the latest round of the Exeter City Grants, with 12 successfully securing a combined total of £18,550.
More community groups in Exeter are celebrating after winning crucial funding from the City Council.
A total of 22 groups applied for funding in the latest round of the Exeter City Grants, with 12 successfully securing a combined total of £18,550.
Exeter City Grants aim to encourage community participation by supporting groups to help run events, festivals, and projects in the city. City Grants are one-off grants of up to £2,500.
Cllr Matthew Vizard, Lead Councillor with responsibility for Communities, said:
“It’s fantastic to see more groups tapping into the funding. The money will go towards a diverse range of activities involving communities across the city.
“Again, I would like to thank all those who applied for a grant. Unfortunately, not everyone can be successful, but there will be more opportunities to apply throughout the year.”
The twelve successful groups were:
- Connected Romanians from Exeter Devon – £800 towards a festival to bring members of the Romanian community together for their cultural celebration of the arrival of spring
- Dreadnought South West – £1,000 to help develop women’s podcasting and storytelling skills to capture the diversity of women’s voices and stories from across Exeter
- Exeter Seed Bank – £1,000 towards core activities, including the Exeter Seed Swap
- Food Exeter – £2,000 towards establishing a monthly farmers’ market on Exeter Quay
- Newtown Community Association – £1,000 towards a creative project to brighten up Belmont Park
- Our Exeter CIC – £1,500 towards a sewing bank bringing adults at risk of social isolation together
- Paddleboat Theatre CIC – £2,000 towards transforming four Exeter school halls into theatres
- Ride On – Cycling for All – £2,000 towards the Bike Project at St James School
- SOCOPS – £2,000 towards the operation of two youth groups for young people with autism
- St Sidwell’s Community Centre – £2,000 towards the Winter Warm Space Workshops
- Sylvania Community Stores and Café – £1,750 towards a broad education programme for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds
- Theatre Alibi – £1,500 towards the Winter Warmer Sessions
The results from round three of the applications are set to be announced shortly.
