Cranbrook Community Landing Site now operational

The latest addition to a network of pre-surveyed night-time landing sites for Devon Air Ambulance is now up and running – bringing the total to 207 sites spread across the county.

Devon Air Ambulance’s new Community Landing Site at Inghams Sports Pitches in Cranbrook is now operational, thanks to a partnership between DAA & Cranbrook Town Council.

The new community landing site will enable Devon Air Ambulance to land quickly and safely in Cranbrook during the hours of darkness, allowing the clinical team on board to be able to reach patients more quickly.

Graham Coates, Landing Sites Manager at Devon Air Ambulance, said:

It’s great news that this community landing site is now operational and we can reach even more local people by air when it’s dark. My thanks to the team at Cranbrook Town Council for their longstanding support in getting this landing site operational.

“Cranbrook Town Council and those involved with the management of Ingrams Sports Pitches have all been really supportive and it’s great to see the collaborative approach between DAA and Cranbrook Town Council result in a landing site ideally placed for our crews.”

The project at Cranbrook has involved surveying the playing field so that the DAA crews can get a better understanding of the key features of the site and the landscape surrounding it before they arrive on scene by helicopter.

Councillor Vikki Wright, Chair of Cranbrook Town Council, said:

The Town Council is pleased to support the establishment of a dedicated Devon Air Ambulance landing site at Ingrams Sports Pitches in Cranbrook. Devon Air Ambulance provides an invaluable emergency service, not only for our town but for communities across Devon. The Town Council has been working closely with the organisation to bring this project forward, ensuring the site is safe and accessible. While we hope that nobody ever needs to rely on it, it is reassuring to know that this vital service is ready to respond when every second counts.
