From 21 July to 15 August 2025, essential gas works are taking place on Heavitree Road, near its junction with Magdalen Road, Exeter.
This is anticipated to cause significant disruption to bus services in Exeter. Services C, R, S, 4, 4A, 9, 9A, 44, 44A and 356 will all be affected throughout this period. As part of this, there will be no bus service from Sowton Park and Ride to the City Centre.
The following services will be affected:
Service C – No service between City Centre (Cheeke Street), Heavitree and Sowton Park & Ride. Passengers who would normally use Sowton Park & Ride are advised to use nearby Honiton Road Park & Ride (postcode EX2 7NL). Normal service between City Centre and Matford Park & Ride.
Service R – Will serve all stops as normal, but will operate on diversion via Barrack Road, Church Lane and Butts Road.
Service S – Unable to serve Heavitree Shops bus stop and diverting via Butts Road, Church Lane and Barrack Road.
Service 4 – Will operate between Cranbrook and St Davids only – not serving the University. Unable to serve Heavitree Fore Street or East Wonford Hill, diverting via Barrack Rd, Topsham Rd, Burnthouse Lane and Rifford Rd.
Service 4A – Will operate between Exeter Airport and City Centre (Sidwell Street) only – not serving St Davids (alternative provision available on service 4). Unable to serve Heavitree Fore Street or East Wonford Hill, diverting via Barrack Rd, Topsham Rd, Burnthouse Lane and Rifford Rd.
Services 9, 9A, 58 and 356 – Unable to serve Heavitree Fore Street or East Wonford Hill, diverting via Barrack Rd, Topsham Rd, Burnthouse Lane and Rifford Rd.
Services 44 and 44A – Unable to serve Heavitree Fore Street, East Wonford Hill or Honiton Road, diverting via Pinhoe Road and Hill Barton Road.
The most frequent bus services from Heavitree to the City Centre will therefore be from the Livery Dole stop.
