Exeter residents have until 20 April to register to vote in May’s local elections. Anyone not registered won’t be able to vote in the City Council poll on 7 May. The electoral register lists eligible voters, and people can sign up online in minutes.
People living in Exeter who want to vote in May’s local elections have until 20 April to make sure they are on the electoral register.
Anyone not on the register after that date won’t be able to vote on the City Council elections on Thursday 7 May.
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote. It is sometimes called the electoral roll.
Residents can register online in just a few minutes using the government’s register to vote service
Anyone who has moved house or changed their name should also update their details.
Once registered, voters can choose how they cast their vote. They can vote in person, by post or by proxy.
Anyone can apply for a postal vote. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April. The deadline for proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.
Anyone voting at a polling station must bring an accepted form of photo ID. Most people already have suitable ID.
Anyone without accepted ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline for this is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. More information is available on the Electoral Commission website
Poll cards will be delivered to homes across Exeter in early April.
