The University of Exeter Business School is supporting a Royal Economic Society initiative to champion the careers of women in Economics.
It is the first institution to be named a UK Women in Economics Network (WEN) Champion, a status that demonstrates commitment to the career development of UK-based women in Economics and to furthering diversity, equality and inclusion efforts within the discipline.
The 12-month partnership will see the University of Exeter Business School support UK WEN activities as well as collaborate on events.
“We are proud to be the first UK WEN Champion!” said Professor Loukas Balafoutas, Head of the Economics Department at the University of Exeter Business School.
“Through this partnership we aim to support the activities of the UK Women in Economics Network, which – along with other initiatives such as Discover Economics, the Diversity & Inclusion network, and the Active Bystander initiative – can be a catalyst for change in our profession and help us build a truly inclusive and respectful environment for all.”
Dr Helena Fornwagner, a Senior Lecturer in the Economics Department, added: “By joining forces with UK WEN, we can help pave the way for a more diverse, equal, and thriving landscape in Economics. We hope to be joined by more Economics departments and look forward to working together within the UK WEN network.”
Professor David Boughey, Interim DPVC and Dean of the University of Exeter Business School, said: “Our Champion status is a recognition of our drive to improve gender representation in Economics, and will enable us to elevate this work, allowing us to attract more external speakers, host WEN events and encourage further action.”
