Exmouth gas works progress well

Work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Salterton Road area of Exmouth is progressing well.

Wales & West Utilities began the £552,000 investment project in February, which is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing everything goes to plan, the project is expected to be complete by the end of November.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Devon County Council to plan the work, and as part of the next phase of work, it has been agreed that the following traffic management will be in place.

  • A rolling road closure on Salterton Road, between Avondale Road and the service road for Tesco. This will incorporate the junctions of Drakes Avenue, The Broadway, and Magnolia Avenue, where there will be no access onto Salterton Road (29 September – 7 November)
  • From 7 November until the end of the project, the work will be carried out under traffic lights

Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is managing this work and said:

“We are making good progress with this project, and we are on track to finish by the end of November.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
