Exmouth in Bloom Launches Creative Gardening Challenge

Exmouth in Bloom has officially launched its annual Gardening Challenge, inviting residents to transform everyday discarded items into vibrant plant displays.

The initiative encourages creative reuse of unusual objects — from old bikes and handbags to worn-out jeans, barbecues, or even disused sinks, toilets, and bathtubs. Participants can use flowers, vegetables, or a combination of both to bring their imaginative planters to life.

The competition is open to individuals under and over 18, schools and community groups, businesses, and care homes across Exmouth and nearby areas. It's free to enter.

To take part, entrants should email one or two photos of their display at its best to info@exmouthinbloom.org.uk by Friday, September 19. Photos must be taken in 2025, and the email should include the participant’s name, address, age if under 18, and chosen category.

Submissions from under 18s must be sent by a parent or guardian and include the child’s name and age. All entrants will receive a certificate, and winners will be honoured at the Exmouth in Bloom Awards and Celebration Evening in October — with the date to be announced.

By entering, participants confirm the photo is their own and grant permission for it to be shared on Exmouth in Bloom’s website and social media.

Organisers hope the challenge inspires eco-friendly creativity while adding a splash of colour to the community — and they can’t wait to see what residents dream up.
