Exmouth, 1 January 2025 – While many celebrated the arrival of the New Year, the dedicated volunteer crew of the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat were out braving challenging conditions on the water.
At 10:20 p.m. last night, H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of the Exmouth relief All-Weather Lifeboat David & Ruth Arthur (13-32) to assist Devon & Cornwall Police and local Coastguard units. With moderate to rough seas and winds reaching Force 8, the six volunteer crew onboard launched swiftly, ready to support the multi-agency operation.
Despite the difficult conditions, the crew efficiently carried out their duties, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork. After providing the required assistance, the lifeboat was stood down, allowing the crew to return to shore.
In a heartwarming end to the mission, the crew stepped off the lifeboat just minutes before midnight, reuniting with their waiting families and friends in time to ring in the New Year.
Exmouth RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, John Thorpe, praised the crew:
"Our volunteers once again demonstrated their dedication and professionalism, responding quickly and effectively in challenging conditions. We’re grateful for their commitment and are glad they could rejoin their loved ones to welcome 2025."
The RNLI reminds everyone of the importance of safety at sea and wishes the community a safe and happy New Year.
