Yesterday (Sunday) at around 11.10am, Exmouth RNLI were tasked to assist a rib in difficulty near Sandy Bay.
The Exmouth RNLI all-weather Shannon lifeboat, 13-03 R and J Welburn, was swiftly launched with a volunteer crew of seven aboard. The 5-metre casualty vessel was experiencing engine problems and, due to the onshore north-westerly winds, was being blown dangerously near the rocks. The charity's inshore lifeboat, D-805 George Bearman II, was also standing by to assist should the Shannon lifeboat be unable to get close enough to the rib.
Upon reaching the casualty vessel and making a full assessment, the decision was made to execute a tow of the vessel. The rib was towed back to safety at Exmouth marina.
