The final two phases of resurfacing work on Rifford Road in Exeter are scheduled to be carried out over the next couple of months.
A large section of the road, between the junctions with Quarry Lane and Lethbridge Road, was resurfaced last month as part of the development of the cycle route.
The remaining areas of Rifford Road to be closed for resurfacing will be:
• Monday 10 February – Friday 21 February: Lethbridge Road to 121 Rifford Road;
• Monday 17 March – Friday 28 March: 121 Rifford Road to Ludwell Lane Roundabout.
During these next phases of work, Rifford Road will remain open between Quarry Lane and Lethbridge Road and between Burnthouse Lane and 121 Rifford Road for access and parking.
A diversion route will be signed via East Wonford Hill, Butts Road, Bovemoors Lane, Dryden Road, Wonford Street and Burnthouse Lane. Emergency access will be maintained, as well as pedestrian access.
New road markings will also be applied, and high-friction safety surfacing will be added at the Lethbridge Road junction.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said:
“The first section of resurfacing has been a vast improvement so hopefully people can see the long term benefit, despite the short term disruption while work is carried out. The scheme is on schedule to be completed by the end of March and once it is finished this will be a much improved area for cyclists, pedestrians and all road users.”

“It’s great to have dates for Rifford Road to be completed. The first part now looks great and makes so much difference to everyone who uses it. Once it’s completed it will be a really positive improvement which will make up for the inconvenience. Thank you to everyone for their patience, particularly the residents, it’s much appreciated.”
