A major fire broke out at Exeter City Football Club’s St James Park late on Wednesday night, with dramatic footage showing flames tearing through a building
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to the scene at around 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, following reports of a blaze “affecting one of the stands.” Emergency services quickly arrived and began working to bring the fire under control.
Videos shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showed bright orange flames lighting up the night sky and spreading across part of the ground.
In a statement Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said
Three appliances and an aerial ladder platform were initially sent to the St James Park football stadium after smoke and flames were seen affecting a temporary building (portacabin) at the St James Road and Well Street end.
Two further appliances were mobilised as the fire was threatening to spread to one of the stands. Fire crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to prevent the fire escalating.
Update 23.23 - Electrics have been isolated and steady progress is being made to prevent escalation, cutting away to expose hotspots.
Update 23.57 - Fire now out, ventilation fans being used to clear smoke. Incident being scaled down.
Update 1.23, 13/11/25 - A fire involving an electrical consumer unit in the football stadium spread to an adjacent portacabin and outside storage area. 60% of the portacabin was damaged by fire and electrical cupboards and electrical intake also damaged by fire. Fire crews used six sets of breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, one safety jet, hydraulic rescue equipment, two positive pressure ventilation fans and three thermal imaging cameras.
Fire investigation will be concluded in daylight hours.
