A junior running event that encourages youngsters to get fit and active has celebrated its 10th Anniversary.
Heavitree Junior Parkrun celebrated the milestone on Sunday with its latest 2km run in the idlylic setting of Heavitree Pleasure Ground.
Paralympian David Hill was there to mark the occasion and assist with a warm-up, along with Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure Services & Healthy Living, before the run got underway. Also in attendance were representatives from Exeter Chiefs.
Heavitree Junior Parkrun started in 2015. The free runs are held every Sunday and are for children aged four to 14. They are open to everyone, with new runners welcome. Families travel from across Exeter to take part in the runs, which in the ten years since they’ve been going, have covered the equivalent of Exeter to Australia and back again!
Cllr Wood said: “What a brilliant start to the day with the Heavitree junior parkrun celebrating its 10th Anniversary.
“I was really impressed with the amazing turn out. It was brilliant seeing so many junior runners and Mums & Dads having fun talking part. Lots of smiling faces despite the drizzle.
“Congratulations to everyone who took part and of course to all the fantastic volunteers who make it possible today and over the last 10 years.”
Heavitree Junior Rarkrun posted on Facebook: “It’s been a great 10 years. Special thanks to Matt and Owen who have been there from the start. All those who ran, helped and cheered over the years, we
