Following a recent structural inspection, which identified repairs needed to certain structural components, Jacobs Ladder will remain closed
Public safety is the Councils priority, and they are taking a careful, considered approach to ensure the steps can be repaired appropriately and brought back into use when it is safe to do so.
As a Grade II listed structure, Jacob’s Ladder requires a specialist repair approach that protects its historic character as well as its structural integrity. They are working closely with structural timber specialists and the EDDC Conservation Team to review the inspection findings in detail, confirm the most suitable repair method, and make sure any works are undertaken to the correct standard.
The Council recognise how important Jacob’s Ladder is to the local area as a well-used access route and a valued local landmark, and they appreciate everyone’s continued patience while this work progresses. The steps will remain closed until further notice, and they will provide a further update as soon as they are able to share more information.
