Celebrating Exmouth Town Council’s Town Hall purchase, East Devon District Council (EDDC) Chair, Councillor Eleanor Rylance, ceremonially handed over the keys to Exmouth Mayor, Councillor Graham Deasy, on Monday 30 March 2026.
Going forwards, Exmouth Town Council will run the building, providing East Devon’s largest town with a community hub for residents, businesses, and local groups.
A flexible space that can be booked for a range of meetings and events for community-oriented groups, has been a long-standing goal for residents, as expressed in the Neighbourhood Plan.
EDDC customers can still access services from the Town Hall through a dedicated free telephone line, connecting to the most appropriate team. Pre-arranged in-person appointments are also available across the district. Share your feedback about these new arrangements on the Engagement Hub, before the deadline of 5pm on Thursday 18 June 2026. If you’re unable to complete this online, request a paper version, by emailing engagement@eastdevon.gov.uk.
Councillor Graham Deasy, Mayor of Exmouth, and Town Councillor for Littleham, said:
“We’re delighted that our collaborative work with EDDC in recent months has resulted in the Town Hall "coming home". We’re pleased to have the opportunity to create a 'civic anchor' in the Town and envisage the Town Hall being a welcoming, accessible space that brings together a wide range of community-focused organisations under one roof. It will provide an important focal point for engagement, wellbeing and closer partnership working for the benefit of all Exmouthians.”
Councillor Frederick Caygill, Chairman of Exmouth Town Council Premises and Assets Working Party, said:
“I am absolutely delighted that we have finally completed the purchase of Exmouth Town Hall from EDDC. This is a significant moment for Exmouth. Bringing the Town Hall into local ownership ensures it will remain at the heart of our community for generations to come. Most importantly, this building now truly belongs to the people of Exmouth, and we look forward to seeing it continue to thrive as a hub for local life.”
Councillor Eleanor Rylance, Chair of EDDC, said:
“It is fantastic to see this Exmouth building back at the heart and in the hands of the community that will make best use of it. The District Council will ensure that services continue to be easy to access for residents of the Exmouth area. Please tell us what you think in the consultation about the new Contact Hub."
Councillor Paul Hayward, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Assets and Economy, said:
“Well done to the Town Council. Their exciting plans to transform this space are a great step forwards, benefitting the community, bringing people into Exmouth town centre.”
