Firefighters battled a massive blaze that erupted at Poltimore House near Exeter in the early hours of the morning, with crews still on the scene to contain the fire.
The incident was reported just after 1 am, prompting a swift response from emergency services following multiple 999 calls.
Initially, ten fire engines were dispatched to the scene, but the number has since been reduced to three. Devon and Cornwall Police are also present to assist with the situation.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service described the property as "fully involved in fire," with images depicting flames engulfing the building. The spokesperson stated, "Fire control received several 999 calls reporting a fire in a derelict property just outside of Exeter just after 1 am. Two Fire Engines were initially sent, however information gained from other callers, fire control mobilised a third Fire Engine."
Upon arrival, crews confirmed the severity of the situation and requested additional resources, including six fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, and two water bowsers. Firefighters have been utilising multiple jets to combat the blaze.
As the operation continues, the number of fire engines has been reduced to two, along with one aerial ladder platform. Police remain on the scene to provide support.
The incident is being treated as a suspected arson and police are appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the fire to contact them.
