Fire crews have now extinguished and left the scene of a large overnight fire at a scrapyard on the Marsh Barton Industrial Estate in Exeter.
The blaze, which began around 8:40 p.m., sent a large plume of thick black smoke visible across the city, even from the city centre. Five fire crews were dispatched from Exeter and Exmouth to the scrap yard within the industrial area including an aerial platform and a water bowser vehicle from Torquay to combat the flames. They worked overnight to extinguish the fire with the Fire Service confirming that it was extinguished and they had left the site at 06:53 this morning.
Some crews will return later today to check on the site, the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.
