With just weeks to go until the City Council elections, people in Exeter are being urged to make sure they’re ready to vote.
Exeter goes to the polls on Thursday 7 May, with voting taking place in all 13 wards across the city. Polling stations open at 7am and close at 10pm.
People will only be able to vote if they are on the electoral register, so it’s really important to check now and avoid disappointment on the day.
Those who are not on the electoral register still have time to act, with the deadline just days away on Monday 20 April.
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote. It is sometimes called the electoral roll.
Residents can register online in just a few minutes here: Register to vote - GOV.UK
Anyone who has moved house or changed their name should also update their details.
Once registered, voters can choose how they cast their vote. They can vote in person, by post or by proxy.
Anyone can apply for a postal vote. However the deadline for completed applications is fast approaching and closes at 5pm on Tuesday 21 April. The deadline for proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.
Anyone voting at a polling station must bring an accepted form of photo ID. Most people already have suitable ID.
Anyone without accepted ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline for this is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. More information is available on the Electoral Commission website: Voter ID | Electoral Commission
