A man has died in hospital following an altercation which took place in Ottery St Mary on 2 November. Detectives are investigating the incident and appealing for any relevant information to be reported to the police.
Police were called at around 10.15pm to The Kings Arms following a report of an altercation involving a group of people in the courtyard.
The victim, a 67-year-old local man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police were later informed that he passed away while in hospital on 17 November. His next of kin are aware.
Five men, all local to the Ottery St Mary area, were arrested in connection to the incident and have been released on police bail until February 2026 pending further enquiries.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Two men, aged 33 and 47, were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and violent disorder.
Two men, aged 31 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
