There’s just one month to go until City Council elections in Exeter, as people are being urged to make sure they are on the electoral register.
Those who aren’t on the register won’t be able to vote in the 7 May local elections. However, there’s still time to act, with the deadline being Monday 20 April.
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote. It is sometimes called the electoral roll.
Residents can register online in just a few minutes here: Register to vote - GOV.UK
Anyone who has moved house or changed their name should also update their details.
Once registered, voters can choose how they cast their vote. They can vote in person, by post or by proxy.
Anyone can apply for a postal vote. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April. The deadline for proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.
Anyone voting at a polling station must bring an accepted form of photo ID. Most people already have suitable ID.
Anyone without accepted ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline for this is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. More information is available on the Electoral Commission website: Voter ID | Electoral Commission
Poll cards will be delivered to homes across Exeter during April.
