Users of Ottery St Mary library will protesting outside the library today (13th February), about how the consultation of libraries is opposed and how they don't want an automated library, or have to go to Honiton.
Ottery Library Users are getting ready for their Protest today (13th February) and not even the forecasted heavy rain will put them off. The Devon County Council Consultation on the Future of Libraries in Devon is strongly opposed here. We are calling on all supporters to join us today, Friday 13 Feb at 4.00 pm, outside the Library for our Protest. Amongst our supporters will be Jess Bailey our local County Councillor, Vicky John - Mayor, Laurie Palmer - Town Crier, Kate Turner and Joy Morrison from Libraries Unlimited.
Our members demand to be heard. They don't want an automated library, or to go to Honiton on Mondays or Fridays. They value our wonderful paid staff, who know people by name. They value the services and activities they provide, especially on Mondays and Fridays. Yes, we have great volunteers, but they need back up and support.
All over the town and the villages beyond, our young people are busy creating their own placards. They want to keep 'Bounce and Rhyme', Lego Club, Coding, Crafts and working for the Book Quest Challenge. As a young girl called Mary told me, cutting our hours is "NOT GOOD!" The facial expression that went with that comment invited no argument!
So we will put on our waterproofs, sou'westers and wellies, and OTTERY WILL PROTEST
