Pecorama, one of East Devon’s most cherished family attractions and home of the iconic Beer Heights Railway, has announced it will not reopen for the 2026 season.
Pecorama, one of East Devon’s most cherished family attractions and home of the iconic Beer Heights Railway, has announced it will not reopen for the 2026 season. The decision follows what the company describes as “much soul-searching” after continued financial losses despite a busy year celebrating the railway’s 50th anniversary and hosting successful Halloween events.
In a public statement, Pecorama revealed that although the attraction enjoys around four profitable months each year, the remaining period has long required financial support from its parent company, PECO. With operating costs rising and economic conditions remaining challenging, the company says it can no longer sustain the ongoing shortfall.
PECO expressed hope that Pecorama may return in the future in a refreshed format, but for now will be focusing on its core manufacturing and publishing businesses. The sudden closure means a small number of loyal staff have taken voluntary redundancy — a decision the company emphasised is no reflection on their dedication or hard work.
Pecorama extended heartfelt thanks to its employees, volunteers and visitors who have helped make the site “a wonderful, friendly place to visit” over the decades. Gold Card members will be eligible for refunds for unused months and can contact the team via info@pecorama.co.uk for details.
