This week East Devon Neighbourhood Team have been out in your local community to distribute information, awareness and support about Romance Fraud.
Being targeted with romance fraud can evoke many different emotions and feelings. Many people will feel ashamed and embarrassed leading to them blaming themselves which is often a barrier to seeking further help and support. Romance Fraud is never the fault of the victim.
Our key messages to the community surrounding Romance Fraud is:
- Block and report suspicious profiles
- Speak to trusted friends and family for support
- Act quick - Report to your bank, Police and Action Fraud
If you have been targeted with a romance scam, contact your bank straight away and report it to Action Fraud. Reports can be made online at https://reporting.actionfraud.police.uk/login or by phoning 0300 123 2040 (Text phone: 0300 123 2050) Mon to Fri, 8am to 8pm and Police via 101 or 999.
