Residents in Exeter can now put their used toothpaste tubes out for recycling, but they must be clearly marked as recyclable and must be cleaned out.
Exeter City Council revealed the latest item that can be placed out for kerbside collection during Recycle Week 2025.
Cllr Ruth Williams, Lead Councillor for City Management said that most toothpaste tubes were now made from HDPE, a highly recyclable plastic.
“Because of this, we have made the decision to accept them as part of green kerbside recycling collections.”
People wishing to recycle their tubes need to firstly check that they are clearly marked as recyclable before snipping them open, rinsing them out and then placing them in their green recycling bin with the caps on.
The theme of Recycle week this yearr, is ‘Rescue Me’, drawing attention to all the things people might not know they can recycle, or which they tend to throw away out of convenience.
Toothpaste tubes are one of those items that often end up in the bathroom bin, so now people in Exeter can rescue them from a fate worse than recycling – along with their face cream pots and tubes, toilet roll tubes, trigger sprays, and bleach and shampoo bottles.
