Sidmouth Town Council has announced that the Red Arrows have confirmed their attendance at the Sidmouth Regatta Airshow 2026. They will also be joined for the first time at Sidmouth, by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Douglas C47 Dakota.
The Douglas C47 Dakota is one of the most successful military transport aircraft designs in history and was widely used by the Allies during World War Two. The Flight’s Dakota ZA947, named ‘Kwicherbichen’ by her crews, conducted paradropping operations on the eve of D-Day, plus missions to evacuate casualties and re-supply forces.
Sidmouth Regatta Weekend is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the town’s calendar and the Airshow on the afternoon of Friday 28 August is the first of three days of Regatta events over the bank holiday weekend. In addition to the Airshow, this year’s Regatta Weekend will again feature community events supported by Sidmouth Town Council and a network of local clubs and voluntary organisations. Sea based events will include Sailing and Gig Races and the annual Surf Lifesaving competition.
After reintroduction last year, the Raft Race returns and will again be organised by the Rotary Club of Sidmouth with sponsorship from South West Water. Regular Regatta attendees will be thrilled that 2026 also sees the return of the Three Legged Race also organised by Sidmouth Rotary Club.
The ever popular Grand Fireworks Display, organised by Sidmouth Town Council will take place on Saturday evening as usual. The food court, together with a bar at The Ham will return for Friday and Saturday and entertainment will be provided on Saturday. Full details of the Regatta and Airshow programme will be revealed as they are confirmed including other flying teams and events.
Chair of Sidmouth Town Council, Councillor Hilary Nelson said: We’re delighted that the Red Arrows will be returning to Sidmouth this year. Sidmouth Regatta is such a special event for the whole community, a chance for families and friends to get together and a support to our businesses and local charities. With this year’s Super Saturday events, as well as Friday’s Air Show, the weekend is shaping up to be a great end of summer celebration! Huge thanks to our Regatta Committee and our voluntary groups who have worked so hard to make it happen!” Sidmouth Regatta will take place from Friday 28th to Sunday 30 August.
