Residents of Cranbrook, and the neighbouring Parishes of Broadclyst, Clyst Honiton, Rockbeare and Whimple, are invited to have their say on Cranbrook and the surrounding areas governance arrangements, including the Town’s boundaries, as Stage 2 of the Community Governance Review consultation moves forward.
The aim of a Community Governance Review is to ensure that appropriate community engagement and local democracy arrangements are in place, and that local services can be delivered effectively and conveniently at the Parish level.
Following the first-stage consultation, which invited views on the current arrangements and how Cranbrook’s planned expansion areas should be governed including the Town’s boundaries, East Devon District Council has now made draft recommendations on how boundaries affecting Cranbrook Town Council and four neighbouring Parishes should be altered.
We want to hear from those living and/or working in the areas affected, and other interested parties, their views on these draft recommendations. This will help ensure that those affected, and other interested groups, have a say in how their local communities are represented and governed at the Parish level.
Have your say on the draft recommendations. The consultation is now live and closes on 24 April 2026 at 5pm. Visit eastdevon.gov.uk/CranbrookCGR to take part. If you, or someone you know, is unable to access the online consultation, request a paper version by emailing CranbrookCGR@eastdevon.gov.uk at least four days before the consultation deadline.
Stages of the review
1. Invite consultation submissions (Stage 1 consultation completed).
1. Consideration of submissions received, and draft proposals prepared.
2. Draft proposals are published and consultation on proposals undertaken (current stage).
3. Consideration of submissions received, and final proposals prepared.
4. Preparation of recommendations, approval by Full Council, and publication of recommendations.
5. Following the review, EDDC will decide whether to make a Reorganisation Order to implement any agreed changes.
Councillor Sarah Jackson, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Communications and Democracy, said:“I encourage residents and those who work in the affected area to share their views on the draft recommendations, and how the governance arrangements can best evolve to support the delivery of services into the future.”Read answers to frequently asked questions about the Cranbrook Area Community Governance Review on the council website.
