Exmouth Town Council invites residents and visitors to join a day of remembrance and celebration on Thursday, 8th May 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
A series of events will take place across the town to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served, while celebrating the peace and freedom that followed.
Event Schedule:
• 3:30 PM – Picnic in Manor Gardens: Gather with family and friends to enjoy a community picnic in the beautiful surroundings of Manor Gardens. Bring along your own picnic food and drinks while enjoying live music from the fabulous Liberty Sisters.
• 6:00 PM – Memorial Service on The Strand: A commemorative service will be held to remember and pay tribute to the fallen. Local dignitaries, community groups, and residents are encouraged to attend. • 6:30 PM – Ringing of the Church Bells: Following the service, Church bells will ring out across Exmouth, echoing the joyful chimes that marked the end of World War II.
• 9:00 PM – Proclamation at Imperial Recreation Ground: The evening will continue with the reading of a formal proclamation, commemorating this significant moment in history.
• 9:30 PM – Beacon Lighting at Imperial Recreation Ground: The day will conclude with the symbolic lighting of a beacon, joining hundreds of others across the country in a powerful act of unity and remembrance.
Councillor Joe Whibley, Mayor of Exmouth, said: "VE Day 80 is a time for reflection and gratitude, as we honour those who sacrificed so much. It is also an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the peace we are fortunate to enjoy today.
