Local young people are finding it easier to get involved in rewarding out of school activities, thanks to new initiatives from Sidmouth Town Council.
The Sid Valley is fortunate to have a very wide offering for young people, but a recent Town Council survey found that a lack of awareness, social anxiety and cost were all barriers that prevented some from participating in pastimes they would like to try.
To ensure young people have easy, year-round access to information about what is on offer, Sidmouth Town Council last March, launched a Youth Directory, listing even more options for young people. The Directory and the online version landed in homes in the Sid Valley and can be found here: https://sidmouth.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Y@S-Directory-November-2025-online-version.pdf
To help those young people who may have fewer financial resources, the Town Council launched the ‘Get Involved Grant’ which targets young people from low-income families for whom the cost of membership fees or kit is a barrier that may prevents them from participating. Information about the process can be found here: https://sidmouth.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Get-Involved-Grants-Process-Flow-Chart.pdf
Application forms are available from Sidmouth College and also from the link here: https://view.officeapps.live.com/op/view.aspx?src=https%3A%2F%2Fsidmouth.gov.uk%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2025%2F11%2FGet-Involved-Grants-Application-Form.docx&wdOrigin=BROWSELINK
