Your chance to help shape Exeter’s cultural landscape

Exeter City Council is developing a new Culture Strategy to shape the future development and delivery of Exeter’s cultural and creative landscape over the next five years.

The Council, working closely with local cultural organisations and attractions, further and higher education institutions, creative artists, and community groups, is encouraging people to take part in a new survey and share their views on the future of culture in Exeter.

Significant investment and regeneration is happening in Exeter, but this also comes at a time of unprecedented pressure on public and arts funding.

The Council recognises the important role culture plays in bringing communities together and connecting them to the city’s unique natural environment, heritage, literacy, and learning.

This was demonstrated by the recent Residents’ Survey, which revealed that 86 per cent of those questioned had participated in Exeter’s cultural scene over the last year, and that satisfaction levels with the city’s museum and attractions are increasing.

The Council wants to ensure cultural growth and opportunity are at the heart of future investment in Exeter.

Cllr Bob Foale, Lead Councillor for Arts, Culture and Tourism, said:
“Exeter is a city of culture, and we know how important it is for residents and visitors to the city.

“Our new Culture Strategy will ensure that the city’s cultural scene continues to thrive in the years ahead. We will work closely with cultural organisations and our partners in the city, and it is very important that everyone gets to have their say on culture in Exeter — what it means to them and how it should grow in the future.

“I would urge everyone to take part in the survey – it only takes a few minutes, and your feedback is essential in creating an ambitious Culture Strategy the city can be proud of.”

The survey, launching on 3 November, runs until 12 December and takes only a few minutes to complete.

Survey results will feed into the development of the draft Culture Strategy, which will be formally consulted upon in February and March, prior to consideration by councillors.
