A family-friendly walking sports festival is coming to Exwick Playing Fields.
The fun day, organised by the community physical activity organiser for Exeter West, will focus on accessibility and inclusion, offering the opportunity to try free drop-in taster sessions with the help of experienced coaches.
It takes place at Exwick Playing Fields on Sunday 21 September, between 1pm and 3pm.
Those attending will be given the opportunity to try:
- Walking tennis
- Walking cricket
- Walking football
- Non-contact T1 rugby
There will also activities for kids and refreshments.
Walking sports are modified versions of the traditional sports they emerged from. Pitches and courts are often smaller, while balls and other equipment may be lighter.
There is usually limited or no contact and no running, with an emphasis on gentle pace rather than strenuous exercise.
The event is funded by Live and Move and supported through Wellbeing Exeter and the Exeter City Community Trust.
In case of bad weather, the festival could be moved to an indoor venue in St Thomas / Alphington. Keep an eye on Live and Move on Facebook for announcements.
Those attending are asked to complete an online form to assist the organisers in planning for the event https://forms.gle/LPBfZxH2Njewb8Nk7
