Citizens Advice Exeter awarded grant to continue supporting residents

The funding will provide £75,000 in 2026/27 and £75,000 in 2027/28 to help the organisation continue delivering essential advice and support services for residents. Members of Executive expressed strong support for Citizens Advice Exeter during the meeting. 

The Council's Executive has approved a £150,000 grant for Citizens Advice Exeter over the next two financial years. 

The funding will provide £75,000 in 2026/27 and £75,000 in 2027/28 to help the organisation continue delivering essential advice and support services for residents. 

Members of Executive expressed strong support for Citizens Advice Exeter during the meeting. 

Councillors recognised the organisation’s role in helping people facing financial pressures, housing issues, benefits queries and a wide range of other challenges. 

Members described Citizens Advice Exeter as a vital lifeline for many residents and highlighted the positive impact the service has across the city. 

The discussion also highlighted the importance of ensuring clear monitoring and reporting arrangements so the Council can assess the outcomes delivered through the funding. 

After the meeting Council Leader Phil Bialyk said: “We are awarding the organisation a grant of £150,000 over the next two years to enable it to continue providing services to people in and around Exeter - it is a much-valued service, and it is great that we have been able to support it.” 

Executive heard monitoring requirements will form part of a formal grant agreement with Citizens Advice Exeter. 

The Council will also continue its reduced-rent arrangement for the organisation's premises, providing additional support alongside the approved grant funding. 

Members discussed the longer-term future of funding arrangements in light of local government reorganisation. 

The meeting heard approved grant will provide certainty and stability for the organisation over the next two years.
