The Council wants to hear form tenants on how to improve communication and transparency and create more opportunities for residents to influence housing services and neighbourhood improvements.
Council tenants and leaseholders are being asked to give their views on the Draft Housing Resident Involvement Strategy 2026-2030.
The draft has been shaped by conversations with 84 council tenants across Exeter who took part in eight engagement sessions before the draft strategy was written.
These included focus groups, drop-in sessions, resident meetings and community events.
Their feedback helped identify the priorities contained within the draft strategy. The Council now wants to hear from more tenants and leaseholders through a six-week public consultation.
The draft strategy has five main priorities:
- Strengthening resident engagement and participation
- Improving transparency and sharing performance information
- Supporting neighbourhoods and communities
- Improving communication and feedback
- Better understanding the needs of residents
It also proposes new ways for people to get involved in shaping housing services.
Residents will be able to respond to the consultation online, by email or in writing.
There will also be opportunities to take part through focus groups and events, with paper consultation packs available.
Consultation information can be provided in alternative formats on request. These include Easy Read, Braille, large print and other languages.
Cllr Yvonne Atkinson, Lead Councillor for Housing and Homelessness Prevention, said: “I want to make sure tenants and leaseholders have a stronger voice in shaping housing services. We have already heard from many residents while developing the draft, and their experiences have helped determine its priorities.
“Now we want more views. Please let us know what you think. Feedback from the consultation will be considered before the Housing Resident Involvement Strategy 2026-2030 is finalised.”
