Former Exmouth Student Returns to Inspire Next Generation of Dancers

Students from Exmouth Community College (ECC) have been gaining invaluable insight into the world of professional dance through a series of inspiring workshops led by former student Hattie Musgrove and university dance lecturer Kuldip Singh-Barmi.

Year 10 and year 12 dance students recently spent two intensive days working with ECC alumna Hattie Musgrove, creating original choreography for their performance examinations. Students worked collaboratively in trios and duets, tackling challenging material and supporting one another to produce high-quality performances.

The workshops gave students the opportunity to experience the creative process of a professional choreographer while developing their own performance skills, confidence and artistic expression.

Hattie, who achieved top grades in both GCSE and A Level Dance at ECC, went on to study for a BA (Hons) in Dance at the University of Chichester before completing a Master's degree in Dance Performance. She has performed with the National Youth Dance Company, MAP Dance Company and a range of leading dance organisations. Now working as an independent choreographer and performer, Hattie has built an impressive career in the industry, most recently performing at the prestigious Breaking Convention festival in Brighton.

Students were also joined by Kuldip Singh-Barmi, Senior Lecturer in Dance at Falmouth University, who delivered a practical workshop for year 12 and 13 dancers. The session also provided an opportunity for students to learn more about studying dance at university level and to ask questions about Falmouth University's BA (Hons) Dance programme.

Kuldip was highly complimentary of the students, praising not only their talent but also their creativity, enthusiasm and professionalism. He described Exmouth Community College as a driving force for dance education and expressed his hope to develop further links with the college in the future.

Tom Inman, Headteacher at Exmouth Community College, said:

"I have been incredibly proud of all of the students involved. They approached every challenge with professionalism, creativity and determination, working together to create some truly stunning performances.

"Having the opportunity to learn from both a successful former student and a university dance specialist has been invaluable. Experiences like these help our students see the exciting possibilities available to them and inspire them to pursue their ambitions with confidence."
