Poets in Exeter are being encouraged to get creative and apply for a £100 commission to create an original piece to be performed at an upcoming festival.
But hurry, applications close this Friday (28 August) at 12 noon!
However, those applying don’t need to submit a poem at this stage, just tell festival organisers a little bit about themselves and what they might like to explore.
It’s all part of the Connecting Dots Cultural Research Exchange at Exeter Phoenix at 6.30pm on Friday 4 September, with performance, spoken word and talks all on offer for free.
Connecting Dots is an Arts Council England-funded project exploring whether poetry can help translate public policy into lived experience and create stronger conversations between communities, artists and institutions.
Connecting Dots is working closely with Exeter’s creative and literary community including UNESCO Exeter City of Literature, Exeter Phoenix, Literature Works and Spork.
Poet, hip-hop artist and civic storyteller Jenniah Senxe Brown is Connecting Dots Founder and Project Director.
Jenniah used to work for Croydon Council. He believes that Exeter has a strong literary identity and a changing civic landscape with a new four-unitary model across the county, including an expanded Exeter, making it a powerful place to bring poetry, policy and community into one room.
Jenniah believes the arts can create a new generation of leaders and change how communities communicate and coordinate. “It’s a pleasure to bring Connecting Dots to Exeter,” he said.
