Safety warning given by Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat

Image: Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat

Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat are asking people to please not walk along East Beach or climb over piles of fallen rock beneath the cliffs.

East Beach is the beach at the far end of Sidmouth Promenade, beyond the lifeboat station and Rockfish.

Yesterday alone, there were more than 35 cliff falls, including one very near miss. The cliffs in this area are extremely unstable, and further falls can happen suddenly and without warning.

⛔ Please stay off this beach and away from the base of the cliffs

⛔ Do not climb over or around fallen rocks

⛔ Do not assume an area is safe because there has already been a fall

They know it can be tempting to explore this stretch of coastline, particularly during the summer, but no photograph, walk or shortcut is worth putting yourself or others at risk.

Please help them by sharing this warning with anyone visiting Sidmouth and encourage friends and family to stay clear of the cliffs.

In a coastal emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
