School Mental Health Champions Complete Wellbeing Training Programme

Students at St Luke’s Church of England School in Exeter have completed a Mental Health Champions training programme in partnership with charity Heads Up.

Over a six-week programme, students explored ways to improve mental health and wellbeing across the school community, developing a deeper understanding of the challenges young people face and the support that can make a difference.

As part of their final task, the group identified key issues raised by students and presented practical ideas and solutions to help improve wellbeing within the school.

The programme forms part of the school’s wider commitment to mental health and wellbeing, which includes student leadership opportunities and ongoing work to ensure pupils feel supported, heard and able to thrive.

St Luke’s is part of a group of schools at the Ted Wragg Trust committed to strengthening mental health provision across their school communities. Alongside Isca Academy, it was one of the first Trust schools to be awarded the Bronze Mental Health Charter Mark in recognition of its ongoing work to support students' mental health.

Mr Harrison Littler, Headteacher at St Luke’s C of E School, said:

“We are extremely proud of our Mental Health Champions for the commitment and maturity they have shown throughout this programme. They have worked incredibly hard with Heads Up to explore important issues affecting young people today and have developed thoughtful, practical ideas to support wellbeing across our school community.”
