There were smiles at Sidmouth College today, Thursday 13th August, as students received their results for A-level and applied courses, and celebrated the end of their sixth form studies.
An outstanding 100% of students who applied to university received an offer, including offers from Russell Group universities such as Bath, Newcastle, Exeter, Cardiff and Liverpool.
There was also a significant 9% increase in the proportion of Sixth Form students achieving grades A*–C or equivalent across A-level and applied courses compared with last year, opening doors to exciting opportunities and enabling students to take their next steps with confidence.
Results in applied courses, including Health and Social Care and Sport Studies, were particularly strong, with students achieving an average grade of Distinction* and progress significantly above the national average.
There were also strong outcomes across a number of A-level subjects, with progress significantly above the national average in subjects including Biology, History, Photography and Art.
The results reflect the hard work, commitment and resilience of students, alongside the dedication of staff in supporting them to achieve their ambitions.
Laura Gosdon, who achieved an A* in English Literature, A in Geography and A in History has plans to study History at University.
Grace Hodgson, who was awarded a B in Biology, C in Chemistry and C in Maths is going on to study Adult Nursing at Exeter University. She said: “I loved the support system from all the staff at Sidmouth College including my subject teachers, tutors and most of all Mrs Burroughs. I will miss the staff who supported me and the atmosphere of the College.”
Luke Rudgard achieved a Double Distinction in BTEC Sport and is going on to a degree apprenticeship in Sports Business Management at the University of Hertfordshire, sponsored by his workplace David Lloyd in Exeter.
Lizzie Burman is off to study Interior Design at Falmouth University after achieving an A in EPQ, A* in Art and Design, A in DT and B in Media Studies.
The school is proud to present Ruby Lindley with the Reading List Foundation Scholarship Award. This award, comprising £275 worth of textbook vouchers, recognises Ruby’s outstanding academic achievements, as well as the resilience, determination and character she has demonstrated throughout her A-level studies. Ruby will soon begin her Adult Nursing degree at the University of Exeter.
The school experience is about much more than just academic results and during their time in sixth form, students at Sidmouth College have taken part in a range of academic and enrichment opportunities beyond their courses. Year 12 and 13 Geography students travelled to Iceland, experiencing first-hand many of the landscapes and geographical features they study in the classroom.
Students have also made a valuable contribution to the local community through a creative partnership with Sidmouth Rugby Club, transforming a piano donated by Sidmouth Hospice at Home into a unique piece of public artwork, which was later showcased at Sidyfest.
The strength of the college's sixth form provision was recognised by Ofsted in March, with inspectors highlighting how well students are prepared for their next steps in education, employment and training. The report praised the personalised guidance and careers support available to students, helping them to make ambitious and well-informed decisions about their futures and equipping them with the skills and confidence to succeed beyond sixth form.

Whatever their chosen destination, we look forward to seeing all they go on to achieve.”
