St Luke’s Students Celebrate GCSE Success

After years of hard work, students at St Luke’s Church of England School were celebrating today, Thursday 20th August, as they collected their GCSE results.

This year students and staff are celebrating a great set of results, with students securing a variety of next steps, from local apprenticeships to A Level studies.

Students achieved particularly excellent results in maths, with more than three-quarters (76%) securing a grade 4 or above and 22% achieving the highest grades of 7-9, equivalent to A/A* under the previous grading system. The strong performance highlights the commitment, resilience and determination shown by students throughout their GCSE studies.

Among the standout individual achievements were Kika M, who achieved five grade 9s, a grade 9-8 in Combined Science, two grade 8s and one grade 7, and Kitty B, who achieved five grade 9s, a grade 9-8 in Combined Science, one grade 8 and a Merit. Kika is off to Loughton College to study Geography, Maths, Economics and English Literature. Kitty is heading to Exeter College to study English Literature, Spanish and Art.

At St Luke’s, which is part of the Ted Wragg Trust, their values sit at the very core of everything they do and staff work hard to ensure students achieve their best, show respect and take responsibility.

Alongside their GCSE studies, students have enjoyed access to opportunities and experiences beyond the classroom to develop their interests and learn more about the pathways open to them. This has included a digital enterprise workshop with Evo Academy, where students looked at how technology can be used to develop ideas and solve problems, as well as sessions with organisations including Michelmores and the Met Office to learn more about different careers.

Students have also had opportunities to build confidence through performance and communication, including winning the sight reading competition at the Devon Performing Arts Festival and taking part in the school’s annual musical productions.

Mr Harrison Littler, Headteacher at St Luke’s C of E School, said:

“Every student collecting their results today has their own story of hard work, challenges overcome and achievements to celebrate. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished during their time with us and the lasting impact they have had on our school community.

“Whatever route they choose next, whether that is further education, an apprenticeship or employment, we wish them all the very best for the future.”
