Traffic bulletin from Wales & West Utilities - Exe Bridge, Exeter

Wales & West Utilities is undertaking emergency works to repair a gas leak in the Exe Bridge area of Exeter.

The gas distribution network was alerted to a gas leak in the area on September 14 and following investigations, is working hard to repair the leak.

To keep road users and colleagues safe, it has been agreed with Devon County Council that the following traffic management will be in place:

  • Closure of the right-hand lane from Exe Bridge North to Edmund Street.
  • Closure of Bonhay Road going to Edmund Street, where road users will be diverted to Frog Street (A3015) and onto Western Way.

Due to the volume of traffic, it is recommended that road users avoid the area where possible and follow the diversion signs in place.

Further information on the works will be shared when available.

Wales & West Utilities Rob Rose is managing the repair and said:

"We are working in the Edmund Street area of Exeter to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

“We’re not yet sure how long our work will take. Our engineers are working around the clock, as quickly and as safely as they can to stop the leak and to make the area safe. While we are doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum, we would ask that people leave more time for travel and to take alternative routes if at all possible.

“While it’s important that we fix this leak now, it does not pose any wider safety concerns and there have been no impact on local gas supplies. We would like to thank local people for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
