Students at West Exe School in Exeter have marked two years of fundraising for Hospiscare by presenting the charity with a £3,917.33 donation.
The money was raised through a range of activities including non-school uniform days, school discos and other fundraising events held throughout the year.
Hospiscare provides free specialist care and support to adults with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and carers, across Exeter and the heart of Devon.
The fundraising has brought students, parents and carers together in support of a local charity, with West Exe, part of the Ted Wragg Trust, thanking everyone who has contributed to the total.
It also reflects West Exe’s wider focus on developing students who are kind and proud of their school community, with opportunities to support others and contribute beyond the classroom.
Sharon Collins, Hospiscare’s Area Fundraiser for Exeter & East Devon, said:
“We are truly touched by the incredible kindness and generosity of the West Exe community. To see students, parents, carers, and staff come together over the past two years and raise an amazing £3,917.33 is simply wonderful.
“It was also a real pleasure to join you all at your Year 11 assembly and see first-hand the pride, enthusiasm and community spirit that make West Exe so special. Your support means so much to us and will help ensure that local patients and their families receive the compassionate care they need during some of life’s most challenging moments. Thank you for embracing Hospiscare and for showing such genuine kindness and commitment. You should all be immensely proud of what you have achieved.”
Jamie Engineer, headteacher at West Exe School, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to all our parents, carers and staff who have supported our fundraising for Hospiscare over the past two years.
“Raising nearly £4,000 is a fantastic achievement, but it has also been wonderful to see our school community come together to support a local charity. It is a great example of the kindness and community spirit we see throughout West Exe.
“We are delighted to be able to make this donation to Hospiscare and support the important work they do for local families.”
