Young people celebrated at our annual Youth Voice Awards

Young people from across Devon have been recognised for the difference they are making to services and opportunities for children and young people across the county.

More than 30 young people, alongside their families, carers, councillors and professionals, came together for this year’s Youth Voice Awards, celebrating the achievements of young people who have worked with us to shape services and influence decision-making.

A particular focus this year was the contribution of young people with SEND through our SEND Network for Change. Members were recognised for helping to create the Outdoor Explorer Club, a free resource designed to help children, young people and families enjoy and connect with nature. Young people have also helped us improve accessibility and inclusion across a range of projects.

Young people involved with Devon Youth Council were celebrated for their work on the Places to Go, Things toDo project, which led to the launch of a new fund supporting inclusive and accessible activities for young people across Devon. Their work has also helped shape discussions around transport and access to opportunities.

This year’s winners received AQA Unit Awards, giving young people formal recognition for the skills they have developed through their participation.

One young person who attended the awards said:

“These awards show that the time and effort young people put into making a difference really matters. It’s rewarding to see the positive changes we’ve helped create and to be recognised for the work we’ve done.”

The celebrations concluded with a range of fun activities and workshops, including DJing, arts and crafts, face painting and frisbee golf.

The Youth Voice Awards are part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring children and young people have a voice in decisions that affect their lives and help shape the services they use.
