Rugby fans can cheer Exeter Chiefs this weekend as they chase Premiership glory in their first final for five years. Exeter City Council leader Phil Bialyk said the city will be firmly behind the team as they aim to lift the trophy on Saturday.
Rugby fans will have the chance to watch their beloved Exeter Chiefs fight for Premiership glory this weekend, as they prepare for their first final in five years.
Exeter City Council Leader Phil Bialyk said the whole city will be behind the Chiefs as they bid for Premiership glory on Saturday.
The final follows a remarkable 27-26 semi-final victory against defending champions Bath, on Saturday afternoon, scoring 17 unanswered points in the second half to turn the game around.
Having secured their place in the final, Exeter will meet the table-topping Northampton Saints at Allianz Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the winner crowned champions.
Rob Baxter’s side became just the second team in the past decade to win a semi-final away from home, earning them a place in their first final since 2021.
Cllr Bialyk said victory would be a massive boost for everyone in Exeter.
He said: “My message is just go for it guys! Rob Baxter and Tony Rowe have led this club so well, so let’s really put Exeter on the map by bringing the trophy back home - for the Exeter Chiefs and for everyone in Exeter.”
Rugby fans across the city will be hoping to see their team add to their silverware collection, with two league titles since their promotion to the top flight in 2010, including an historic European double in the 2019/2020 campaign, a memorable moment for the city.
The club’s domestic and European success has cemented Exeter as an established name in the sporting world and brought a spotlight to the city, being selected as a host venue for both the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cups in recent years.
Despite huge success in recent times, the Chiefs finished just ninth in the previous season, their worst ever top-flight finish, this upcoming final being a testament to the swift progress the club have made to get to this stage.
The final will take place at 3pm on Saturday 20 June at Allianz Stadium (Twickenham) with fans expected to roar their side on from inside the stadium and from home.
