Returning after their festive breaks here's a round up of our local rugby action
In local rugby on Saturday in the Regional one south west Exmouth Cockels had a close fought victory over visiting Cornish side St Austell by 27 points to 22 at Imperial road. While in the Regional two Sidmouth also had a narrow win beating Topsham 31-27 at the Blackmore field but remain top of the division with Crediton keeping up the chase in second place with a comfortable victory over visitors Chard by 45-14 at Exhibition road and there were two other big wins with Cullompton easily beating bottom club Burnham on Sea 54-21 at Stafford Park with Teignmouth getting a much needed bonus point win over Wellington by 53 -25 at Bitton park .
In the Counties one western west Tiverton lost ground in the chase for top spot beaten 48-17 by second placed Paignton at Queen's Park. While in the Counties two Devon Honiton had a comfortable victory over neighbouring Exeter Saracens by 41-12 at Allhallows but Withycombe had to forfeit their game at Barnstaple Athletic as the were unable to raise a first team.
Finally in the Counties three Devon north and east New Cross had a easy 43-14 home victory over bottom club Torrington while Okehampton seconds gained bragging rights over Sidmouth Quins with. 26-5 win at Oaklands Park
