 In local rugby on Saturday Exmouth Cockles had their hopes of moving up the Premier League dashed when they were somewhat surprisingly beaten at struggling Gloucester side Drybrook 22-8.

Being 15-3 down at the break they were hit with a further converted try early in the second half and although the Cockles scored late on the game was lost.

League leaders Exeter University look unstoppable in their promotion push with another fine victory at fellow challenger's Weston super Mare by 36 points to 14.

In THE Southwest One Crediton got back to winning form with a comfortable 27-12 victory over visitors Newent at Blagdon but Sidmouth were narrowly beaten 21-15 at Bristol based Thornbury.

In the Western Counties Division bottom club Honiton lost again by 45 points to 25 but with a much improved performance at Wiveliscombe , Teignmouth succombed 47-17 at League Leaders Wadebridge Camels and Tiverton were hammered 76-24 by Truro in Cornwall.

Finally in the Devon and Cornwall League Withycombe were held to a 15 all draw by a late try from visiting Newquay Hornets at Raleigh Park while Topsham racked up a cricket score against Torquay Athletic at the Bonfire Field with a huge 109 points to 5 victory and Cullompton kept the pressure on the leaders with a 35-22 win over Plymstock Albion Oaks at Stafford Park.
